While being interviewed by Radio-Canada, Rev. Al Sharpton took a wisecrack at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his lengthy pause when asked about Donald Trump on Tuesday. Sharpton was attending the funeral of George Floyd who was murdered by four police officers in Minneapolis on May 25.
The interviewer asked Sharpton what his message to the public was and Sharpton responded with: "We want justice. There should not be a funeral here today." Sharpton mentioned having preached at similar funerals previously for Eric Garner and Michael Brown, both black men who were killed by police officers. "How many funerals do we need to have before we change the laws and we have accountability."
Sharpton was preaching at the funeral which he called "A tipping point for changing how policing is going to be done in America and I'm going to be forthright in that. The hope I have is that I've seen as many whites marching as blacks. I've seen people old and young. It's a new day, the time has met the moment of change in America, and I'm going to express that in my eulogy."
Sharpton then took a moment to address that the reporter was Canadian by saying, "And since you're from Canada, I won't have a 21-second gap before I say what I have to say."
The reference is of course to the now viral clip of Justin Trudeau pausing for 21-seconds before answering, in a very vague like Trudeau-like fashion surrounding his thoughts on U.S. President Trump's decision call in the National Guard on protestors.
Sharpton isn't the first person to take a crack at Trudeau's delayed response, comedians and meme-sters alike have been having a go at the prime minister since the question was asked two days ago.
