Sir Elton John announced his departure from the Twittersphere on Friday afternoon, blaming "misinformation" that the legendary singer says has been allowed to "flourish unchecked" since the takeover by Elon Musk.

Musk, who is somewhat of a Rocket Man himself, bought the social media network for $44 billion and has since allowed a "general amnesty" for many suspended accounts.

John tweeted, "All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world. I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked."

Accounts that have been reinstated include many on the political right, such as Steve Bannon, the account of former President Donald Trump, Roger Stone, and Ye, formerly Kanye West, who was promptly re-banned after tweeting a symbol of a Star of David with a swastika intertwined.

In response to John's announcement, Musk tweeted, "I love your music. Hope you come back. Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?"

In response to one user, Musk said that "it's true that most celebrities don’t write their own posts. More should. Way better to hear directly from them."
