Florida Governor Ron Desantis (R) joined author and political commentator Dinesh D'Souza on Friday, where the two took a deep dive into the origins of "woke" and how it has taken a grasp on all aspects of society.

From government institutions, to corporate businesses, and even the United States Military, Gov. Ron DeSantis explained that the increase in "wokeness" has significantly changed American culture and believes the cause to be stemming from academic institutions.

While D'Souza explained that political correctness has been an issue which has been around for quite some time, the "woke phenomenon" has plagued society only in recent years and has taken ahold of institutions that used to be seen as "conservative" such as the United States military, the FBI, and even Disney.

"How do you account for the deep penetration of this woke madness into previously conservative institutions?" D'Souza asked Gov. DeSantis.

"I think it's a function of our education system," DeSantis replied.

"I remember being on campus and you know, at some of these Ivy League schools, the nonsense that's there, I always told myself, 'You know, this is crazy but the minute they get into the real world, none of this stuff's going to fly so it's kind of harmless," DeSantis said. "Well, I think the joke was on people like us because what happened is, as these people got into these different institutions in society over the last couple of decades, they are bringing with them a worldview. And it's really a worldview that's synonymous with the people that are ruling class. People in these institutions who think it's their right to govern us, even without our consent."

"And so all the assumptions that they bring to bear about our country and society are shared across institutions," DeSantis explained, adding, "It's not like they're even coordinating this. It's just a natural outgrowth of the intellectual foundation."

Gov. DeSantis reflected on his time in the United States Navy and how the nation's military institutions once made members feel proud of their service, but the shift in woke leftist ideology has resulted in people not wanting to join the service, which has been reflected in low recruitment numbers.

"You see them recruiting using drag queens, and doing stuff with the pronouns and all this other stuff. That's part of the main reason recruiting is so low," DeSantis explained. "As you look at the battles with the left in the past, their imprint on society is much broader today than it was 30 or 40 years ago.

"We knew we had to battle them in the halls of legislatures and in the halls of Congress. We knew things like academia were going to be what they were. But, I think a lot of us viewed in the past, institutions like businesses as being more neutral and places like the military, even exemplifying conservative values," DeSantis said.

"Those days are over and that's why it's important that we fight back and reclaim these institutions," Gov. DeSantis said to D'Souza.

D'Souza, host of the Dinesh D'Souza podcast, touched on leftism taking over college campuses and how activists will attack individuals that don't garner to their worldview. He mentioned how academic institutions were once a place that people went to learn, but have turned into indoctrination camps and are rewriting history, which was revealed when leftists smashed the nation's historical statutes.

Governor DeSantis mentioned the attacks on Riley Gaines, the former Kentucky swimmer who lost to trans-identified competitor Lia Thomas, and has now been fighting to preserve women's sports.

"The woke ideology is a mortal threat to a free society and if we lose these looming battles over the next five or 10 years, I think it'd be very difficult to recover from that," DeSantis said.

The two spoke about the Florida state legislature banning ESG with Gov. DeSantis saying, "Our view in Florida is very simple. No social or economic transformation without representation."

D'Souza replied, "I can see why people say that Florida is the place where woke goes to die."
