School superintendent speaks of 'indoctrination plan' for Loudon County parents, students

Loudoun County Public School Superintendent Scott Ziegler said at a June 28th meeting that the school board has "a pretty robust indoctrination plan ready to go." He modified his statement, saying "inculturation plan for this, ready to go, as we go into the school year."

Ziegler's statements came during a work session around the schools 2022-2027 Strategic Plan which outlined the direction the school board intended to go within the next five years.

Libs of Tik Tok posted a clip of the meeting where Ziegler speaks of his alarming plan.

Ziegler's upcoming plan is directed at parents and members of the community who grew vocal in 2021 about their opposition to CRT and gender theory curriculum.

The plan articulates four goals for the next five years, two of which were dedicated to creating "inclusive" environments for students.

"Goal 3: Enriched Division - Key strategies and measures for success to maintain an inclusive, safe, caring, and rigorous learning environment as the foundation for student growth," and "Goal 4: Engaged Community - Key strategies and measures for success to enhance educational excellence through building meaningful relationships with families and the community."

Throughout the work session, the board focused on determining the metrics for their goals' success and whether their initial outlines on those measures should be available to the public.

Board members Andrew Hoyler, Atoosa Reaser, and Harris Mahedavi expressed concern that the Strategic Plan, as it exists, would sow confusion into the community, especially since goals 3 and 4 spoke directly to that relationship. Mahedavi said that he thought it best to "remove the measures for right now."

Reaser agreed and said "I agree with what my colleagues are saying about the potential for misinterpretation by someone who hasn't followed closely the discussion we're having today."

Board chair Jeff Morse suggested that to make things more palatable for the public the measures of success should be separated from the initial rollout of the plan to the public. The original document can be found on the board's website.

The deputy school board superintendent, Ashley Ellis clarified "On page 17, we would remove the measures of success and you would be voting on the goal statement, the action statement and the strategies below that?"

Some of the items they intend to remove before the public could form an opinion on their plan were:

The creation of a "social media task force" a "central communication platform for constituent concerns" and tracking the "percentage of students, families, and employees responding positively on items related to perception of division and school culture."

Mahedavi said that to get the message they want out into the public they "do need to go on a road show somewhere" to "reach community where where we can communicate this."

It was to Mahedavi's point of going on the road to help convince the public of the school board's plan that caused Ziegler to say he already had an indoctrination plan ready to go.

Additional controversy in the school district exploded after the school board covered up the sexual assault of a teen girl after a biological male who identified as female was allowed to use the women's bathroom.
