Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) spoke passionately about the Haitian migrants who recently arrived en mass to Del Rio, Texas. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is allowing their capture and release into the US.
Upon hearing the news, Cornyn said: "It’s entirely inconsistent with what they said they were going to do with the Haitian migrants in Del Rio, who has repatriated them to Haiti. So, unfortunately, this is the same mistake they have made from the very beginning: that they tell, they say one thing, and they do another, but these folks and the human smugglers who smuggle them into the United States and make a lot of money doing it, are watching what they’re doing and not listening to what they’re saying."
Cornyn called out the Biden administration's mixed messaging on the border crisis and its efforts to relocate Haitian migrants. He blamed the president for their apparent failures on immigration.
A Rasmussen Reports poll found 54 percent of Americans blame the Biden administration’s approach to immigration as the problem, versus 37 percent who said Trump’s policies were to blame.
In the same poll, 52 percent said Biden’s decisions on immigration issues are "poor," up two points since April.
With Texas on the defensive, Cornyn enlisted dozens of motor vehicles to build a makeshift wall along certain areas of the US-Mexico border.
"It will fail to deter not just the 15,000 Haitians that we’ve seen in Del Rio, but the next wave of migrants who come in," he said.
"The administration simply doesn’t acknowledge that what we have here is a flawed policy, which provides a magnet for people to continue to come into the country because they know they can simply blend into the great American landscape."
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki did not have a concrete number to share when reporters asked how many Haitian migrants entered the country.
Cornyn added the current White House either "doesn’t care" or doesn't know how to fix it.
The Biden administration’s banned the use of horses at the US-Mexico border Thursday after a picture of an agent’s spiraling horse rein near a pair of fleeing Haitian migrants went viral. Democrat Maxine Waters interpreted the image as the agent was whipping the fleeing migrants.
Earlier this week, Border Patrol agents called Vice President Harris an "absolute idiot" for blaming border patrol for the controversy.
According to a report, the Biden administration intended to contract a migrant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to deal with the surge of Haitian migrants at the southern border. However, DHS confirmed Wednesday evening "they would not send Haitian nationals being encountered at the southwest border to the Migrant Operations Center (MOC) in Guantanamo Bay."
Bill Melugin of Fox News has been at the campsite in Del Rio for the entirety of their coverage as thousands of Haitian migrants continue to congregate under the International bridge.
The latest from Melugin shows the makeshift camp being bulldozed, with most of the migrants in the area now gone.
Another report indicates the Haitian migrants previously lived in Chile and Brazil with access to housing and gainful employment before leaving for the US.
