Another prediction made by the Simpsons has apparently come "true," as the Biden administration announces that Tom Hanks will narrate a video marking the president's first year in office.
The Simpsons first aired in 1989, and from day-one poked fun and satirized many aspect of American life, not least politics. Since then, a number of the scenes depicted in the show have, to varying extents, come true.
The show has "predicted" everything from Donald Trump becoming president to the advent of smart watches and autocorrect.
The latest Simpsons' prediction to come true involves Tom Hanks.
In 2007, The Simpsons Movie hit theatres, and featured a scene in which Hanks was chosen by the US government to step in and rescue their credibility.
"Are you tired of the same old Grand Canyon?" Hanks begins. The scene shifts to a visiting family, who tell Hanks that they want a new one.
"Hello. I'm Tom Hanks" he says. "The US Government has lost its credibility, so it's borrowing some of mine."
After announcing the location of a new canyon, Hanks declares, "It's nowhere near where anything is or ever was. This is Tom Hanks saying, if you're gonna pick a government to trust, why not this one?"
Fifteen years later, none other than Tom Hanks was chosen by the Biden administration to take part in a video highlighting the president's first year in office.
As Axios reports, the video "promoting a recovering, resilient America" will be narrated by Hanks, and feature profiles of "everyday Americans."
"In recognition of the President’s first year in office," the administration said, "the Biden-Harris Presidential Inaugural Committee believed it was important to celebrate the strength and perseverance of the American people in the face of extraordinary adversity, just as we did a year ago today."
The video is expected to fill the airwaves Thursday, from dawn to dusk.
This is not the first time Tom Hanks has appeared in an official government video for the Biden administration. Following the president's inauguration in 2021, Hanks hosted a 90-minute "Celebrating America" special.
