While Justin Trudeau clowns his way around the world signing this agreement and that, the issues at home that most need fixing are being ignored. The Liberal government seems to be intent on fixing problems that they’ve made up. Apparently Canada needs more diversity, despite being more culturally and ethnically diverse than most of Europe and North America. According to the Liberals, Canada is unfair to women, although it consistently ranks as one of the freest countries in the world to be a woman. These are some imaginary problems, among many others that Justin Trudeau has decided to waste his precious time in parliament “fixing.” However, when you talk to real Canadians, impacted by the everyday decisions of our government, they will most likely reference the following six problems as being in need of urgent attention.

1. Border security

As thousands of illegal immigrants pour across our border with the United States, Justin Trudeau hasn’t even begun solving the issue. Instead of offering real tangible solutions, the Liberal government has decided to throw "hush money" at the residents most affected by the situation. In recent news, it was revealed that the federal government compensated the Quebec residents near the main crossing point at Roxham Road with up to $25,000. Does that sound like a solution to you? While the federal government could fix the border crisis overnight by reinforcing our unofficial points of entry, Justin Trudeau would rather cover it up until election time. Well Canadians want answers, polls show that attitudes to immigration have been the lowest in the country since decades. Increasingly, it’s looking like immigration will be the next major election issue and by 2019 the Liberals better have answers.

2. Getting the pipeline built

As a standoff between the Eastern and Western provinces continues to unfold over equalization payments, Canadians are overwhelmingly calling for a pipeline to be built. Despite his promises on Canadian energy, Justin Trudeau failed to deliver on his pipeline. The Trudeau government has lavishly wasted billions on a pipeline project they can’t even build. Alberta crude oil barrel prices have come to an all-time low and no answer is in sight. Instead Trudeau is focusing on the potential disaster that is going to be the carbon tax. Apparently Trudeau thinks he knows better than Canadians. Yet in defiance, Canadians came out in droves in Calgary to protest the federal government’s handling of the pipeline and the impending carbon tax.

3. The impending housing crisis

Housing prices are through the roof in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. Canadians are finding it harder to pay their rent and to simply get by every day as the cost of everything skyrockets. It was recently revealed that a billion dollars was funnelled by foreign criminal organizations through the Vancouver housing market. Yet not a single word or show of initiative has come from the federal government to try and fix these problems. Instead, the federal government has been piling illegal immigrants into hotels and filling the already encumbered Toronto homeless shelters to make room for them, while Canadian citizens who are struggling to find somewhere warm to sleep are being driven out into the cold. According to recent numbers nearly half of those currently in a homeless shelter in Toronto are illegal immigrants.

4. Canada’s treatment of veterans

According to Justin Trudeau veterans are “asking too much” from the federal government. While at the same time he throws away $50 million at his favourite comedian’s foreign aid pet project. Under the Liberals' hands the time veterans have to wait until they can get disability payments for their honourable service has grown drastically. According to the latest numbers more than 3,000 disabled veterans had to wait over a year to get their disability payments processed. It’s becoming clear that Justin Trudeau doesn’t care about those who risked their lives and health for their country. Canadians find this unacceptable.

5. The living situation on First Nation reserves

While Justin Trudeau pays $2 million in security upgrades to his private home, people living on First Nations reserves have to do without clean water to drink. Despite promising to fix the problem, a report released by the David Suzuki Foundation finds that Trudeau’s promises have fallen short. First Nations peoples still have to trek to get drinking water every day, despite living in a country with abundant resources of fresh water.

6. The opioid crisis

The quantities of opioid-related death in Canada are rising at alarming levels. According to statistics 1,036 people died in the first three months of this year alone. Yet despite the devastating losses, the Liberals have failed to produce any real plan to reduce the deaths and cut fentanyl off at its source. What do they do instead? Well, ministers like Waterloo MP Bardish Chagger mock the number of opioid related deaths asking, “that’s it?” as if anything more than 0 is an acceptable number.
