A drag show for kids that had been scheduled for later this month in Jasper, Indiana has been canceled due to backlash.
The event was to be hosted by the group Dubois County Pride as part of the larger Pride in the Park event. The group posted on their Facebook page "We regretfully announce that due to safety and security concerns, the family-friendly drag performance planned for Pride in the Park has been canceled."
The event was canceled after Libs of TikTok posted the flier advertising the upcoming drag show on Twitter. The announcement includes the performer lineup for the event and highlights that all ages are welcome.
As The Post Millennial reports Libs of TikTok has made a tremendous impact by reporting on where and how drag shows for kids have been popping up across America.
That impact had garnered the ire of many, including Taylor Lorenz who doxxed the account earlier this year.
Dubois County Pride noted that backlash was the primary cause for their cancellation but that the cancellation was a joint agreement between them and the city.
According to a local news Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide said the drag show was canceled after a "miscommunication" further stating "I don't claim to be an expert on family-friendly drag shows and I don't think the public understands what that means either."
The drag event was to be part of a broader, annual celebration Jasper holds for pride month, the Pride in the Park Festival. The recent addition of a drag show for kids is reflective of events such as "drag story hours" happening all over ranging from NYC to Air Force Bases.
Libs of Tik Tok was on the vanguard of identifying this trend that has culminated in several anti grooming bills such as the one in Florida.
