Sobeys is bringing back a lockdown bonus for workers in areas across Canada with renewed stay-at-home orders, according to a story done by CTV News on Monday.
Sobeys said the pay increase is “the right thing to do.” This pay increase will run until the end of mandated lockdowns or until the company determines based on “ever-changing circumstances.”
The grocery store chain said the bonus is a temporary program that rewards employees for the amount of time they work during the lockdown period.
The more employees work during a government-mandated lockdown, the more they will earn. This pay increase can range from $10 to $100 more per week.
Employees working a 40-hour work week would earn a $100 bonus that week.
Bonus pay is being provided to front-line workers at Sobeys, Foodland, FreshCo, Farm Boy, Voila by Sobeys, retail support centre workers, and certain IGA locations in locked down areas of Quebec.
