Spotify staffers are now reportedly planning a strike if their demands for direct editorial oversight of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast aren’t met. This comes just weeks after the comedian moved his popular podcast to the platform after signing a $100 million agreement announced in May.
Spotify stocks soared after Joe Rogan signed the exclusive deal with the platform, but this did not stop some of their staffers from feeling offended by some of the episodes on the Joe Rogan Experience. Primarily, the episodes featuring conservatives or topics related to transgender issues.
Staffers are now demanding to have editorial input on the podcast. Joe Rogan's unfiltered style, which is part of his success, is seemingly verboten to these staffers. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek initially defended Rogan's right to speak freely, and took no action in censoring him.
According to Digital Music News, an impending strike or walkout of New York-based Spotify employees may soon be underway, as Spotify management has capitulated to some demands, but refusing to implement any further changes.
