The release of the Anti-Defamation League’s annual report on antisemitic incidents across the country revealed that these incidents hit a high in May, during a time when Squad members were expressing anti-Israel comments.

According to the report, the US saw 2,717 antisemitic incidents, a 34 percent increase from the 2,026 incidents recorded in 2020, "and is the highest number on record since ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents in 1979."

These incidents consisted of 1776 reports of harassment, 853 incidents of vandalism, and 88 cases of assault.

The highest number of these incidents occurred in the blue states of New York and California, which recorded 416 and 367 cases, respectively.

An increase in these incidents was noted in May of 2021, when 387 cases occurred.

This corresponded with the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and a number of anti-Israel statements made by Squad members.

In May of last year, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy blamed the increase in antisemitic incidents to these Squad members’ statements.

"Over the past several weeks a growing number of House Democrats wrongly blamed the violence in the Middle East on Israel," McCarthy said in May of last year. "In fact, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Cori Bush irresponsibly tried to delegitimize our closest ally in the region, calling it an ‘apartheid state.'"

"Within days, this same sentiment of bigotry spilled into several major U.S. cities," he continued.

Representatives. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar represent states in the top ten for incidents, with New York ranking third in incidents per 100,000 people, Michigan ranking ninth. and Minnesota ranking seventh.

"We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban," Omar said last June.

Her comment gained criticism from members of her own party, with Rep. Jerry Nadler leading a group of Democratic lawmakers who condemned the comment, according to Fox News.

"Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided," the group wrote. "Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one's intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice.

"False equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups," the group added.

Omar had also called Israel’s actions to defend itself from Hamas "terrorism."

In regards to the Iron Dome defense system Omar was referencing, Ocasio-Cortez voted "present" in the fall on a proposition that would increase funding for it. She had been expected to vote "no" on the issue.
