Starbucks Canada has announced that by the end of May it is looking to reopen as many locations as it can.
On Wednesday, the company said it plans to start reopening with drive-through, pickup and delivery services. It will be expanding different services based on the specific location, according to Global News.
Starbuck closed many Canadian locations last month due to the coronavirus pandemic, though it kept some shops near health-care centres and hospitals open.
“The stores which remained open, during COVID-19, have helped the company test and refine new ways of working and new operating models, designed specifically for the current social-distancing environment,” Starbucks said in a statement. “The company will now roll this out more broadly.”
Staff will have to cover their faces, practice social distancing measures, avoid touching their faces and sanitize surfaces frequently.
The workers will also be asked to take their temperature before each shift and use a “COVID-19 Virtual Coach” to make sure they can work. Plexiglass shields are set to be installed in front of cashiers.
The Seattle-based company announced on Tuesday that it saw a drop in sales in the first few months of 2020 after stores began to shut down.
Starbucks said the current quarter will likely see worsening conditions that will probably start to recover this summer and into 2021. Executives noted they were seeing encouraging signs.
“I think we emerge from this strengthening the brand and strengthening the connection we have with customers,” said Kevin Johnson, the president and CEO, in a conference call with investors.
