Stephen Colbert says Fox News' Peter Doocy should be slapped for asking Biden a 'ridiculous' question

"President Biden held a press conference and he was asked a ridiculous question by a ridiculous man, Fox News reporter and that one kid in high school who wears a suit to gym class, Peter Doocy."

In a recent segment of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," the show’s namesake suggested that Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy should be slapped in the same way Will Smith slapped Chris Rock as the Oscars for asking President Biden a question regarding chemical weapons.

"Yesterday, President Biden held a press conference and he was asked a ridiculous question by a ridiculous man, Fox News reporter and that one kid in high school who wears a suit to gym class, Peter Doocy," Colbert said on Tuesday evening before playing the clip of the Monday press conference.

"When you said a chemical weapon used by Russia would trigger a response in kind?" Doocy asked.

"It will trigger a significant response," Biden responded, to which Doocy asked what this means.

"I’m not going to tell you. Why would I tell you? You have got to be silly," Biden said.

As the show cut back to Colbert, the crowd laughed at the clip, and at Doocy for asking questions about what the president meant when he said the US could potentially use chemical weapons, something America has consistently promised to never do.

"Remember how on last night’s show I said that slapping is never, ever the answer? I’d like to file a one-time exception on behalf of the President of the United States," Colbert said, referencing the slap during the 94th Academy Awards on Sunday evening.

Smith walked on stage that evening to slap Rock in the face, after he joked about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her alopecia.

Smith went on to win best actor that evening for his role in King Richard, and later apologized to Smith in an Instagram post.

"Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally," Smith wrote on Instagram.

"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness," he added.

"I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us," Smith concluded, adding: "I am a work in progress."
