On Tuesday, writer Stephen King equated former President Donald Trump and his associates to cartel members, stating that "lawyering up is what members of organized cartels do."
"Lawyering up is what members of organized cartels do, using due process as a holding action. Lose, appeal. Lose, appeal. Run out the clock. This is how Trump and his cronies are dealing with their political afterlives," the tweet states.
The tweet is potentially a jab at the investigation into Trump and his associates by the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.
Most recently, the committee voted to recommend contempt charges against Mark Meadows, Trump's former Chief of Staff.
"Mr. Meadows put himself in this situation, he must now accept the consequences," Chairman Thompson said on Monday's according to the Daily Mail.
"Anyone who wants to cooperate with our investigation can do so. Nearly everyone has," Thompson said, referring to Meadows ceasing to cooperate with the committee, despite already handing over around 6,000 pages of documentation.
"Our democracy was inches from ruin, our system of government was stretched to the breaking point. Members and staff were terrorized. Police officers fought hand and hand for hours. People lost their lives," he said.
Twitter users spoke out against King's tweet, questioning why getting a lawyer would equate being guilty.
