Study says fully-vaccinated people who get COVID-19 develop 'super immunity'

"Our study implies that the long-term outcome is going to be a tapering-off of the severity of the worldwide epidemic."

The results from a study at Oregon Health & Science University indicate that the antibodies from a breakthrough case of COVID-19 after getting fully vaccinated generate as much as a "1000 percent more effective" immune response.

Current discussion surrounding the issue of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has brought the question of vaccine efficiency into focus.

The very definition of the word in the case of inoculations pertained to how well it prevents infection, at least until recent days.

In the case of OHSU, they've published a paper as to what the human body's reaction is to getting COVID-19 after a breakthrough infection. While one of the authors pointed out they haven't analyzed the Omicron variant in particular, they anticipate the outcome is the same for the rest of their findings.

"These vaccines are very effective against severe disease. Our study suggests that individuals who are vaccinated and then exposed to a breakthrough infection have super immunity," concluded Dr. Fikadu Tafesse.

Their experiment had OHSU employees infected with COVID-19 after having (all) been vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, and comparing the results of that with a control group.

Co-author Marcel Curlin M.D. expressed optimism at the data: "It doesn’t mean we’re at the end of the pandemic, but it points to where we’re likely to land: Once you’re vaccinated and then exposed to the virus, you’re probably going to be reasonably well-protected from future variants."

This comes amidst a timeframe where world leaders are recoiling at the oncoming Omicron variant. Dr. Anthony Fauci believes people will have to wear masks on airplanes indefinitely as the Washington, DC, area has reinstated mask mandates for the vaccinated and unvaccinated, alike.

Internationally, over in Canada, the Quebec province has begun shutting down public places in response to an upsurge of cases.

This as the United Kingdom holds off for the time being, at least waiting until after Christmas to make any definitive moves.
