Support for recalling California Governor Newsom grows as COVID cases boom in state

A new poll from Emerson College and Nexstar Media shows that momentum to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom has grown in the past two weeks, as California continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases.

The poll, which was released on Tuesday, shows that support for the recall sits at 46 percent, up from 43 percent in the last poll. The poll did, however, find that 48 percent oppose the recall, and 6 percent are undecided, down 3 percent from the last poll.

One thousand Californians were polled from July 30 to August 1, with the poll having a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

Newsom also saw his approval rating fall, with 48 percent of Californians approving of his job, while 42 percent disprove of his work, with 10 percent unsure.

Homelessness is the top issue in California according to this poll, with 19 percent of those surveyed saying so. Other high ranking issues include housing (at 16 percent), COVID-19 (at 15 percent), and crime (at 13 percent).

Spencer Kimball, Director of Emerson College Polling, said, "This poll suggests that the tightening of the race could be attributed to people’s increased concern on crime," reports The Daily Wire.
