Sen. Ted Cruz, who was the Republican runner-up during the 2016 presidential race, hinted in a recent interview at a potential 2024 presidential run.

When asked by The Truth Gazette about the possibility of Cruz running in 2024, the Texas senator said, "Absolutely. In a heartbeat."

"You know, I ran in 2016. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life. We had a very crowded field with 17 candidates in the race, very strong field. And I ended up placing second," Cruz continued.

Cruz went on to point out the historical trend of the runner-up being a key nominee in the future.

"There's a reason historically, that the runner-up is almost always the next nominee," said Cruz. "And that's been true going back to Nixon, or Reagan, or McCain, or Romney, that has played out repeatedly. You come in with just an enormous base of support. You know, in 2016, we raised over $92 million. That was the most money any Republican has ever raised in the history of presidential primaries."

Cruz is not the only one strongly toying with the idea of a 2024 presidential run.

Former President Donald Trump has strongly hinted at his own run for president.

In September, Trump said when asked if he's going to run: "That's a tough question. Actually, for me, it's an easy question. I mean, I know what I'm going to do, but I'm not supposed to be talking about it yet from the standpoint of campaign finance laws, which, frankly, are ridiculous."

"I think you're going to be happy," Trump declared.
