Svetlana, 28, who uses the controversial yet popular chatbox for work, says that she turned to the artificial intelligence app after receiving a letter from her landlord indicating that they were going to raise her rent, Fox News reports.
In February, Svetlana says that she received a message stating that her rent would be increased by 0.4 percent, from $1,389 to $1,395.
She told SWNS media that she received the notice just a few days after requesting her rent be lowered due to multiple appliances not working in her building, an issue she has complained about in the past.
"It was the audacity to increase the rent, seemingly in retaliation after I filed a complaint and request for a rent decrease on the basis of decreased building-wide services," Svetlana said to the publication.
She then turned to ChatGPT, a bot that uses AI technology to produce humanlike conversations, where she successfully drafted a legal letter to her landlord that explained the rent increase was in retaliation for asking for a decrease and cited the New York rent stabilization code.
"It took a couple of attempts to get it perfect," Svetlana explained. "I prompted ChatGPT to add more legalese."
"That's the beauty of ChatGPT – the ability to collaborate, bounce ideas, put thoughts into a cohesive piece of writing," Svetlana said. "It's like a super-smart, objective, real-time sounding board."
Within days of sending the letter to her landlord, Svetlana says that the appliances were fixed.
"I never received an official response from my landlord. There was a sign posted in my building announcing that the laundry rooms were back in service," she added.
Svetlana told the outlet that after experiencing success with the app, she is thinking about using ChatGPT to draft a letter to her "chainsmoking" neighbors.
