President Biden often references a "light at the end of the tunnel" when it comes to America escaping the pandemic restrictions.
But it's up to the individual states to take those steps.
According to The Daily Wire, Republican Governor of Tennessee Bill Lee is ready to return more normalcy to his state. In an interview with Outkick’s Clay Travis yesterday, he said it was high time to take the next step of bringing back concerts, parades, and sports to full capacity.
At the end of April, Lee officially declared COVID “now a managed public health issue” and no longer a crisis. It was during this same timeframe that he made the goal of lifting restrictions by the time of Memorial Day.
When it comes to the issue of vaccination, Lee believes “it’s now up to individuals to make those kinds of decisions.” The Governor’s position on the topic has been consistent. Previously when asked about the concept of vaccine passports, he replied "COVID-19 vaccines should be a personal health choice, not a government requirement."
While the initial podcast conversation focused mostly on sports, Lee afterward elaborated on his stance via Twitter.
It’s an eclectic bunch of rules that Tennessee needs to unwind. It was back on April 27th that Nashville did announce a lifting of all capacity restrictions for the city. But all the meanwhile still require masks indoors.
But the Governor’s desire to transition out of the pandemic mindset is firm. “We can’t make decisions based on the fact that someone might get infected. That’s going to be true from here on forward. So we should live life, we should open for business, and we should move ahead with what we’ve got.”
