Texas National Guard drills in prep for coming illegal 'mass migration' surge

"DHS projects up to 18,000 illegal crossings per *day* when that time comes. That's more than double the current volume," Fox News reporter Bill Melugin described.

On Thursday, members of the Texas National Guard were seen running training exercises involving riot gear in preparation for an anticipated significant jump in illegal United States - Mexico border crossings next month.

"Texas National Guard soldiers in riot gear running drills in the RGV on how to respond to a ‘mass migration’ event when Title 42 drops next month. DHS projects up to 18,000 illegal crossings per *day* when that time comes. That’s more than double the current volume," wrote Bill Melugin of Fox News.

The Biden administration last week revealed they're ending the Title 42 border policy on May 23. It was a measure introduced by former President Donald Trump that allowed border officials to immediately expel migrants on the basis of curtailing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden's CDC says it's no longer necessary, but Missouri, Louisiana, and Arizona disagree with the decision. The states have put forward a lawsuit that claims ending Title 42 "was done unlawfully and will have a devastating impact on states."

On Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his intention to send 900 charter buses full of illegal migrants to Washington, DC. The governor believes that the move would bring more "immediate" attention to the issue.

The decision by Abbott invoked a response from the Biden White House as the administration's press secretary Jen Psaki shrugged it off as a publicity stunt.

The latest update by Julio Rosas of Townhall.com has him interviewing migrants in Piedras Negras, Mexico, who are looking forward to the end of Title 42. Reportedly, word is spreading that if enough migrants come to the American border all at once, Border Patrol agents won't be able to stop them all.

The former Homeland Security secretary who worked in the Obama administration agrees with those who want Title 42 to remain in place, or at least delay removing it. "It's not sustainable for the Border Patrol and ICE to be able to track these people," Jeh Johnson told Joe Scarborough on Thursday morning.
