Texas Senator claims he recommended to Biden that Uvalde school be torn down

"I can't tell you how many little children that I've talked to that don't want to go into that building. They're just traumatized. They're just destroyed."

Texas State Sen. Roland Gutierrez (D), whose district includes Uvalde, the site of the recent tragic school massacre, claims he had the opportunity to speak with President Biden on Sunday, when he visited Robb Elementary School, the site of the shooting.

He also claims that, having the President's ear, he suggested that the school be torn down.

According to the Washington Examiner, State Senator Gutierrez "revealed details of his conversation with Biden in an interview."

"The commander in chief, who visited Uvalde with first lady Jill Biden on Sunday, met with survivors, victims' families, first responders, and other local officials at a church service after visiting Robb Elementary School, where 18-year-old Salvador Ramos slaughtered a class of fourth-graders," the Examiner continues to report.

"I can't tell you how many little children that I've talked to that don't want to go into that building. They're just traumatized. They're just destroyed," he claimed to have told the President.

"We're going to look to raze that school, build a new one. I'm not going away," he said Biden replied to him, following it up with, "I'm going to bring you resources."

There is some precedent to what the pair are allegedly proposing. The Sandy Hook school, the site of a previous mass shooting on 2012 on a level with the Uvalde shooting, was torn down and replaced. The price tag for that was estimated to be around $50 million.

State Senator Gutierrez also stated that Biden and he discussed vastly increasing investments in mental health infrastructure, saying that Uvalde is notoriously underserved in that regard.
