There will be no Grand Prix in Montreal this year, according to Sportsnet. This morning the announcement was made by organizers, who said that there were too many concerns over safety this year.

The event was originally slated for the weekend of June 12th, and had been postponed until  July 5th, and then to an indefinite later date, but potential mass contamination fears has made that unrealistic.

International Formula 1 officials had originally been more optimistic about what would be possible this year, originally aiming for 15-18 events to be held before the end of 2020. This is looking less and less possible at this point, as more and more local events make the decision to cancel instead of just postpone.

People who have already purchased tickets for postponed or cancelled events are eligible for refunds, and the F1 organization is working with promoters around the globe to put these options in place quickly and efficiently. These people are recommended in the meantime to contact their respective points of purchase.

Montreal has largely opened up to a wide variety of activities of various natures, with varying degrees of success, but large-scale festivals and gatherings of this nature remain prohibited by local authorities. There has already been public concern sparked over people getting together in large numbers, as has happened recently due to protests.

Local officials offer their apologies and acknowledge that the decision was a difficult one to take for all involved and that nobody is happy about it, but for now we all have to accept it.
