Twitter's blue verification checkmark, which was once given by the company to prominent figures, are officially being removed by the social media giant.  Notably, several former Twitter heads such as former CEO Jack Dorsey had their check removed, indicating that he is not paying for the service. 

According to CEO Elon Musk, Twitter had planned to eliminate the legacy blue checkmarks on April 1, but the date passed without any action taken. Musk said that the final date for removal would be 4/20, or April 20, and this date was confirmed in a recent tweet. Following this change, Twitter's verification marks will only be available to paid users, businesses, government entities, and official affiliates.






In addition to the removal of legacy blue checkmarks, Twitter has also ceased recommending non-verified accounts on its "For You" algorithmic timeline since April 15. The company has also updated the label for the verification mark, indicating whether the account is subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account.
