The Smithsonian Museum, which basically keeps the cultural records of the United States, has determined that whiteness is a scourge that is responsible for pretty much everything unpleasant that has ever happened in the US.
The National Museum of African American History & Culture released a baffling "guide" to understanding whiteness. Some of the determining characteristics include "rugged individualism," "family structure," "the scientific method," "history," "work ethic," "aesthetics," "holidays," "justice," "competition," "communication," "plan[ning] for the future," and "decision making," among a long and substantive list.
Taken together, these admonitions against what is perceived as "white" are actually an attack on the social order, which since it is perceived as irredeemably racist, must be dismantled.
By attacking the concept of "rugged individualism," which emphasizes self-reliance, the Smithsonian is making an argument that one should be reliant for one’s well being elsewhere.
In diminishing the value of a "family structure" the Museum contradicts countless studies about the importance of dual parent partnerships when it comes to raising children, thereby justifying the condition of single and absent parenting that exists in the lives of so many American children.
Along with chucking the scientific method, we are meant to renounce "objective, rational linear thinking" as well as "cause and effect relationships." If cause and effect relationships are considered a detrimental impact of whiteness, it’s hard to imagine what the Smithsonian makes of gravity. Additionally, if cause and effect relationships are a form of white oppression, then how can whiteness be the cause of harm? Wouldn’t harm necessarily be an "effect"?
History is taken up as a function of whiteness, because of its focus on Western Culture, of which the United States is undoubtedly a part. It bemoans the "Protestant work ethic" as advocating for work before play, which it does, which is a function of learning how to focus on what is important first before availing oneself of reward. This is a logical way to get things done, but of course, we know what logic is a product of.
Redefining basically everything in American culture as a function of whiteness, and determining fully that whiteness itself is bad, is a sure fire way to destroy democracy, freedom, and deprive Americans, and the world, of any reasonable chance at liberty. But of course, saying these things is probably a function of whiteness. Probably we’d better check our privilege.
White people who don’t subscribe to critical race theory are considered racist for doing so. In fact, not acknowledging your unearned "white" merits is considered part of the problem.
Museum curators write "Since white people in America hold most of the political, institutional, and economic power, they receive advantages that nonwhite groups do not. These benefits and advantages, of varying degrees, are known as white privilege. For many white people, this can be hard to hear, understand, or accept—but it is true. If you are white in America, you have benefited from the color of your skin."
Implied in that is that not only have white people benefited, but that benefit came at a cost that they were willing to pay, that of oppressing others. The idea is that white people, by virtue of their skin colour, are oppressors whether they intend to be or not.
The issue is not with the fact that racism exists, but with how it is being portrayed as an inevitable condition of whiteness. This is just not so. It is possible to be white and not be a racist microaggressing monster.
The trend of slagging off "whiteness" is hard to miss these days. Just the other day, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter Vancouver posited that "reliability" and "loyalty" as part of "capitalist white supremacy." Recently, a New York City school board meeting went viral after one of the woke members claimed that the sight of a black baby on the lap of a white man was "upsetting" and "racist."
This is not only nonsense, but it is dangerous nonsense. Black people are being horrifyingly undermined by having these thoroughly rational, logical, tools to survive and thrive in society be called out as anathema to black culture. They are not. The institutions that say they are must be called out and shown for the frauds that they are.
It’s one thing for some sub-literate woke activist to make such claims, but the rot of identity politics has now made its way through our most important institutions. They are peddling this backwards ideology back to the public at increasing speed, and as they do they are undermining the very foundation of the culture that has given them credence. The Smithsonian will not survive in a society that doesn’t value knowledge, justice, or history.
