The WHO turns to Lady Gaga in pathetic new damage control stunt

In an attempt to cash in on celebrity where their reassurances to the international community have failed, the World Health Organization (WHO) is trying to trade on the status of endorsements from none other than Lady Gaga.

“A very good call with @ladygaga,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President of the WHO tweeted, “I thanked her for her continuing efforts to show compassion & kindness to the world. She is ready to support @WHO in any way possible in the fight against #COVID19. Together!”

Ghebreyesus, continuing to be massively tone deaf to a culture that now knows celebrities are useless save for the cheques they can write, went on to wish the singer a Happy Birthday.

He wrote: “And happy birthday @ladygaga! I am so touched that you’re spending this moment on finding ways to support the world during #COVID19. I send you my best wishes! Thank you for spreading kindness at such an important moment for all of us! Together!”

Now, one might wonder what Lady Gaga has to do with a global pandemic that threatens to take hundreds of thousands of lives. One would be right to wonder that, since she has nothing to do with it. This is cynical pandering by an organization that failed to confirm human-to-human spread of the disease, claimed “stigmatization” was more dangerous than the virus, insisted that travel bans not be implemented, and continues to insist that masks are not necessary for the public.

The WHO was and is wrong on all of the above. Instead of owning up to their constant, deadly mistakes, they have foolishly deputized a mediocre woke popstar in order to regain credibility. It won’t work.

The WHO and Ghebreyesus have come under fire for seeming to bend to China’s official narrative of events where the coronanvirus pandemic is concerned. On December 31, China notified the WHO about an “unknown illness.” The WHO repeated China’s claim that there was “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus” on January 14, taking that nation’s assertion as fact. By January 21, the virus was spreading outside the country, and the first known case of it was found in the US.

Officials from WHO confirmed the narrative that China was handling the outbreak successfully. In mid-February, Ghebreyesus praised President Xi Jinping in Beijing. “We appreciate the seriousness with which China is taking this outbreak, especially the commitment from top leadership, and the transparency they have demonstrated,” he said. This did nothing but feed the idea that China was handling the outbreak well when in fact they were guilty of cover-ups, likely have disappeared doctors who contradict the official story, and have ejected western journalists, making an accurate dissemination of information impossible.

Chinese propaganda is unacceptable whether it's the WHO saying it or Lady Gaga singing it. One undeniable consequence of this global pandemic is that the World Health Organization’s incompetencies and deference to Chinese government officials will be exposed. Ghebreyesus, a man to whom the world is looking for answers, is playing public relations games to bolster the appearance of China and his own organization, while lives are lost, and people are confused as to how to proceed to contain, prevent, and mitigate the impacts of this pandemic.
