A horrific tragedy unfolded in Oregon last week when a man was shot dead during a road rage incident after his windshield wiper fluid accidentally sprayed the vehicle next to him.
Dennis Anderson, 45, and his partner were traveling along the Oregon coast on July 13 when a black BMW 3 Series tried to pass them, The Oregonian reports.
Anderson's partner, Brandy Goldsbury, 46, told the outlet that wiper fluid may have landed on the passing BMW when her partner was cleaning their vehicle's windshield.
"I was just like, 'Ignore him, he's just having a bad day,'" Goldsbury told Anderson, according to the paper.
The BMW then sped away but parked alongside the road a few miles ahead. When Anderson passed the BMW, the driver started tailing their vehicle, and acting as if he was trying to hit them.
"And then it would go into oncoming traffic and kind of swerve towards us, like trying to push us to the side of the forest," Goldsbury recalled.
Anderson then pulled over and called 911 after the driver of the BMW tried to run them off the road several times.
According to Goldsbury, the driver of the BMW stopped parallel to their vehicle and opened fire. The gunshot fatally struck Anderson.
"The last thing that [Anderson] said was, 'Oh my God, they shot me,'" Goldsbury said. "By the time I got to him, blood was coming out of his mouth."
Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the BMW sped away, according to The Oregonian.
The Oregon State Police is investigating the fatal shooting, and described the suspect as a short man in his early 20s with a medium build and dark hair.
No arrests have yet been made.
