Three people are facing second-degree murder charges in Toronto for shooting and killing a 15-year-old boy, according to CP24.
Two men and one woman are being charged after police received reports of gunfire on Sheppard Avenue West, east of Jane Street.
On April 26, shortly after 6 p.m. officers reached the scene where the young boy had collapsed near a dumpster after he was shot close to the left hip. He was later pronounced dead shortly after being transported to hospital. The victim's name is Jeremiah Ranger.
Ranger was found by his mother just minutes after he left their house in North York. She said paramedics tried to revive him for about 45 minutes.
She described him as “a lot of love” and a “bright boy” when speaking about him the next day.
“Jeremiah is in a better place,” she said. “He is in heaven and he is at peace and I just want the people who are responsible for this to surrender themselves and I don’t want no more people to be affected by this.”
“The gun violence with the black youth in the community needs to come to an end.”
Surveillance footage was released by investigators showing Ranger enter a vehicle with a friend. Ranger and his friend can be seen running from the vehicle moments later.
According to police, Ranger was shot while he was in the vehicle and fell to the ground approximately 20 meters away. His friend was not injured.
Det.-Sgt. Henri Marsman said the video “played a large role in identifying the suspects,” when talking to reporters on Monday.
Marsman added that police recovered the vehicle but have not yet recovered a gun.
A warrant was executed after the video was shared and 22-year-old Tyler Ricardo Young was arrested at that time.
His brother, Seymour Myles Young, 23, was arrested three days later along with his girlfriend Hannah Yvonne Gaudet, 20, after they turned themselves in. The three of them are being charred with second-degree murder.
Marsman said that he hasn’t found a “clear relationship between the accused and the victim.”
“I haven’t established a motive,” he noted. “There are a lot of investigative theories, but I am not willing to comment on those right now.”
“We continue to investigate the relationship between the parties involved and we are still appealing to members of the public if they saw anything to come forward and provide us with statements.”
Anyone who has information is urged to get in touch with police or Crime Stoppers.
