A tractor accident took place on Wednesday, killing three children and injuring three more in a town south of Montreal, according to CTV News.

The tractor shovel was carrying four adults and six children below the age of five-years-old in Notre-Dame-de-Stanbridge when they were suddenly ejected for an unknown reason, say police.

“They were (then) injured by the tractor,” noted Sgt. Ingrid Asselin from the Sûreté du Québec.

Two others received minor injuries and two adults are now in critical condition.

The man driving the tractor is in his 30s and was arrested following the incident. He is set to appear in court on Thursday and charges have yet to be determined.

Police believe there may have been alcohol involved in the incident.

Asselin said the man may be charged with criminal negligence adding that it is also illegal to ride the shovel of a tractor.

Investigators will question the adults involved and have seized the tractor.
