The Idaho National Guard announced this morning that three pilots have been killed following the crash of a Black Hawk helicopter they were travelling on Tuesday night.
Fox News reports that the crash happened during a training routine near Boise. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
In a statement, Commander Maj. Gen. Michael Garshak said, "This is a tremendous loss to the Idaho National Guard and our community, Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones as we work through this tragedy."
The last contact officials had with the chopper was around 7:45 pm, with an Emergency Transmitter Locator onboard activated around 8:00 pm.
The wreckage of the helicopter and bodies of the personnel were found south of Lucky Peak. The National Guard says, "The cause of the accident is unknown and an investigation will begin promptly."
