There have been 43 new charges laid by Thunder Bay Police against a local man connected to a child pornography/online child luring investigation. Charges against the accused now amount to 46.
The Cyber Crimes Unit of the Thunder Bay Police Service started investigating the situation in March 2019 when they received information on an internet user in the area who was suspected of uploading child pornography.
An arrest was made in June 2019, following the investigation. Thunder bay resident Skyler Jay King was arrested after police searched his home on McKibbin Street. The then-25-year-old received charges of Possession of Child Pornography, as well as two counts of Importing and Distributing Child Pornography.
Cyber Crimes Unit members continued to collect evidence in the case, which lasted almost a year.
They eventually discovered that the man was connected to acts of child luring along with making child pornography available.
The accused was found to be using multiple social media accounts and investigators identified over 200 victims.
The victims involved in the investigation spanned across North America, Asia and Europe.
Skyler Jay King is charged with:
• Luring a child under 18 s.172.1(a) x 19
• Luring a child under 16 s.172.1(b) x 8
• Make Sexually Explicit Material Available to a child s.171.1(1)(b)
• Distribute CP s 163.1(3) x 2
• Make Child Pornography s.163.1(2) x 9
• Voyeurism s 162(1)(c)
• Possession of CP s.163.1(4) x 2
• Accessing CP s.163.1(4.1)
On Wednesday, May 6, King appeared in bail court and has another date set for Thursday, May 7.
