Zookeeper and Tiger King star Eric Cowie has died. According to TMZ, Cowie's body was discovered Friday in New York. A friend allegedly found him facedown in a Brooklyn apartment bedroom. It remains unclear whether why the Oklahoma zookeeper was in New York.
According to authorities, no foul play is suspected and there is nothing suspicious related to his death. No drugs were discovered on the scene, despite rumours alleging Cowie was addicted to meth.
Eric Cowie made several appearances on Netflix's hit show, Tiger King. He served as the zookeeper of the now-infamous Joe Exotic's Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park. A close friend of Joe Exotic, Cowie described showing up to the notorious zoo owner's doorstep, allegedly "at the end of (his) rope." Joe then took him in and put him in charge of the animals.
This friendship would not last as Cowie turned on Joe and testified against him. He testified that Joe Exotic had ordered the killing of multiple animals, leading partially to Exotic's conviction.
Joe Exotic remains in a federal prison after being convicted of trying to hire two different men to kill animal rights activist Carole Baskin. He is sentenced to 22 years.
