A Toronto-area man is in hospital after an early-morning shooting in North York.

Police say the man was found after reports of gunshots at 4:30 am in the Finch ad Islington avenue area.

The man is in critical condition, according to CP24.

No suspect has been identified and a description has not yet been given. An investigation is underway.

It is not known at the time if the incident is related to another early-morning shooting near Jane and Finch that left a 14-year-old girl in critical condition.

Speaking on the spike in gun violence in his city to start 2021, Mayor John Tory told CP24 Friday morning: "These spurts of activity of this kind are extremely disconcerting. It doesn't matter what month it is, or what day it is or what part of the city is, it is very disconcerting and it is one of the most complex and difficult challenges we have at city hall, to try to figure out exactly how we can come to grips with this."
