An off-duty Toronto cop is facing charges after being accused of soliciting a prostitute in York Region last month, CP24 reports.
"When the suspect arrived, he was wearing a firearm and told her that he was a police officer," York Regional Police said in a Thursday statement regarding the case. "The victim got upset and demanded that he leave."
York Regional Police were notified about the incident on March 31, being told that a police officer attempted to arrange sexual services from the woman.
Georgina resident Travis Houston, 37, was arrested in a Special Investigative Unit investigation on April 2. He has been charged with obtaining sexual services for consideration, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief.
York Regional Police have confirmed that Houston is employed as a police officer in Toronto. Toronto police corroborated that fact, stating that Houston "has been suspended with pay under the Police Services Act."
He has been with Toronto's police for two years.
York Regional Police say they "have concerns there may be additional victims," and they have asked "anyone with information to come forward."
"Members of the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit - Human Trafficking Section are continuing their aggressive efforts in combating human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women and underage girls," police said in a press release. "Investigators are willing to speak with anyone involved in the sex trade who may be looking for a way out or who may require assistance to escape these dangerous circumstances."
