Toronto Pearson Airport will be putting new policies in place on Monday to avoid further spread of coronavirus, reports Global News.
Beginning June 1, the following policies will be implemented according to health officials:
- All passengers and airport employees must wear masks/face coverings at all times.
- Terminal access will be restricted to passengers who are travelling on the same day and airport employees on duty. Meeters and greeters or those dropping friends and loved ones off at the airport are not permitted to enter the terminals.
- When arriving at Toronto Pearson, please exit the terminal buildings immediately upon collecting your bags from the baggage carousel.
- As always, follow in-terminal signage and maintain a safe physical distance of two metres from others whenever possible.
It is not mandatory for certain people to wear face masks or coverings including those with trouble breathing, under two-years-old, people who cannot remove a face mask without assistance or are dining.
Exceptions for people who are not travelling and are still permitted to enter the terminal building are family and friends of a traveller who needs mobility assistance or someone alongside a minor who’s travelling alone.
Those exempt from the policies for same-day travel are connecting passengers that have a layover for over one day, say officials.
“If you’re waiting to pick up a friend or family member, our convenient cell phone waiting areas are a great option,” said airport officials in a statement.
Officials also noted that additional cleaning procedures have been introduced at the airport in high-touch areas including kiosks, baggage carts, handrails, moving sidewalks and escalators, washrooms and additional hand sanitizer stations.
Staff and employees at the airport now have to wear face coverings or face masks if they are not eating or drinking.
They are also reminded to continue physical distancing measures and avoid gathering in passenger areas when it is not necessary. Airport officials have noted that employees entering passenger areas for amenities such as retail services, food or washrooms have been instructed to leave the area when they make their purchase.
Terminal building access will only be available for employees departing or arriving for work. They also cannot enter through specific areas in terminals 1 and 3.
