In the middle of the chaos of the Taliban's Sunday takeover of Kabul, 32-year-old Josie Thomas, a transgender government contractor and former USAF sergeant, has found herself trapped with several of her colleagues.

Thomas sent tex messages, that were obtained by the Los Angeles Blade, detailing the situation on the ground. They read that Thomas was aware of the immediate danger, that Taliban fighters were in the city, and that Afghan security personnel were no longer at their posts, having abandoned them.

Thomas "also expressed frustration at the lack of communication regarding the lack of a presence of U.S. military forces to assist," the Blade reported.

They are stranded at what is known as Camp Alvarado, a facility located close to the Kabul airport. The American Embassy in Kabul has also had to close for security reasons. American citizens in Kabul have been warned not to go to the Kabul International Airport, as there were reports of the Taliban firing on it.

As of Sunday, colleagues in the US reported that Thomas had said some members of the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division had made their way to Camp Alvarado.

One of those in contact with Thomas said that they "Just talked to her again for several minutes. The 82nd has taken control of her compound and there’s a clear route from there to the flight line now. That the place is looking like a refugee camp with the amount of displaced coalition personnel and there’s no aircraft coming in to evacuate people yet."

Joe Biden is spent the weekend on vacation at Camp David, but is due to return to Washington, DC to speak to the American people on Monday afternoon. The Taliban have reportedly begun to search for US citizens and their allies, along with journalists.
