In what neighbors said sounded like an "explosion," a truck careened towards a house in Downers Grove, Illinois on Friday afternoon, burst into the residence, and broke through the other side, leaving a trail of wood and drywall strewn all over the yard. The vehicle finally came to stop when it collided with a tree in the backyard of the property.
Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in the collision. The house residents were in the basement at the time of the crash, around 4:00 p.m., and out of harm’s way. The driver, who reportedly experienced a medical emergency while behind the wheel, was carried to a nearby hospital. He and one other passenger who was also in the car are both expected to make a full recovery.
Micky Bravo, the next-door neighbor, says he couldn’t really make sense of what had just happened when he stepped outside his residence to see what was going on.
"I think it’s one of those things where you’re just…'did that just happen?'" he told CBS News. "I did not realize the extent of the damage until I walked out on my deck and started seeing more and more and more."
The owners of the house are staying at a hotel for the time being. The damage to their house has made the residence unliveable, but repairs are already being made to the residence.
