Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Red FM radio in Vancouver this morning that Canada's governor general Julia Payette is "excellent" and that he won't replace her, The Canadian Press reports.
Trudeau's comments come at a time when Payette's office is under investigation and her character is under tremendous scrutiny.
Allegations say Payette has created a toxic work environment in the office of the Governor General. According to some employees, the former astronaut acts like a bully at work.
Trudeau noted in the interview that the government has payed a consulting firm with a history of Parliament Hill workplace harassment files to conduct an investigation into Payette's office.
Payette has also been under fire for her spending as well. It was found that Payette has been using a government jet for pick-ups and drop-offs at the Mirabel, Quebec cargo airport on the way to her cottage.
The Governor General—staff have alleged—is "uncomfortable" with her staff and workers. So much so that she signed off on spending nearly $250,000 so that she could have more privacy at her residence.
Trudeau also suggested that the replacement of Payette could trigger a constitutional crisis. She now has just one year remaining in the four-year mandate.
