Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregorie Trudeau were both given their first doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine on Friday, with Trudeau giving a big double-thumbs-up to the camera afterwards.

Trudeau encouraged Canadians to get vaccinated prior to getting the jab, saying that the "best vaccine for you is the first one that's offered to you," which is why they chose to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Health agencies both in Canada and abroad have been monitoring the AstraZeneca vaccine after it became known that the vaccine had links to rare blood clots. Some clots have since been reported in Quebec and Ontario.

The vaccine is currently not recommend by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization for those under 40.

The Trudeaus previously had to isolate in March 2020 when Gregorie Trudeau tested positive for coronavirus.

According to CTV, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh received his first vaccine on Wednesday, and Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole will receive his over the weekend.
