Justin Trudeau's Justice Minister David Lametti has appointed another judge to the bench who is a long-time Liberal donor, according to Blacklock's Reporter.

The judge had given $14,000 to the Liberal Party over the past four years. On top of this, the judge had given over $8,000 to the Albertan NDP.

Despite this, the House of Commons has refused to investigate whether this is a political appointment.

"This raises questions about whether certain candidates for appointments were given preferential treatment," said one Conservative MP.

"There have been allegations substantiated about political interference directed by the Prime Minister’s Office with respect to the appointment of judges," he added.

Canadians, said the MP, "deserve to know the judges that are appointed are the best qualified to serve."

Michel Bourque was appointed to the Alberta bench this week. "I wish Justice Bourque every success as he takes on his new role," said Lametti. "I am confident he will serve the people of Alberta well."

The Liberal government has a history of appointing Liberal donors to the front bench. Last summer, four judges were appointed who had donated to the Liberals.
