In an internal report, Canada's Treasury Board has listed environmental protestors as threats to federal security, Blacklocks Reporter says. The Treasury Board refused to comment on the document yesterday.

The report listed peaceful demonstrations alongside the October 2014 gun attack on Parliament Hill as reasons why the country is “not immune to security threats”.

The recent report, Horizontal Internal Audit Of Physical Security In Large And Small Departments, warned government agencies of a “variety of threats and risks faced by departments”.

The threats are defined as "any potential event or act, deliberate or unintentional, or natural hazard that could result in compromise."

“While different departments may face different threats depending on their operations, locations and assets, all federal departments could potentially face significant injuries in terms of the loss of confidentiality and integrity,” the report said.

Back in 2013, the National Energy Board asked government divisions to take a look at environmentalists who opposed the Northern Gateway Pipeline. The RCMP and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) monitored many activist groups and individuals on social media to determine if they spoke negatively about energy projects.
