US President Donald Trump announced that he may give his acceptance speech for the Republican presidential nomination from the Gettysburg memorial. CNN said that this is some kind of nod to the Confederacy.

The Battle of Gettysburg, in July 1863, is considered to be a turning point in the Civil War, where the Union began to make serious inroads toward victory. The north won this battle, and this is the site from which Abraham Lincoln gave his Gettysburg Address, four months after this battle.
Trump announced the potential plan after people, again, on Twitter and in mainstream media, were infuriated by the idea that he would give the speech from the White House.

Normally acceptance speeches would be given from a political party convention, but those have been cancelled this year due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
CNN's belief that Trump giving a speech from the site of a great Union victory somehow signals his allegiance to the former Confederacy was echoed on Twitter.
