Supporters of former US President Donald Trump gave him a warm welcome when he landed in Florida from Washington, DC as his presidency came to an end.

The crowds were waving flags and cheering as Trump returns to West Palm Beach, Florida. He will be spending his post-presidency at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Anita Bargas, who came to Florida from Texas to greet him, told WPLG-TV Miami "We just wanted to show him how much we appreciate him."

According to Fox News, Trump's motorcade drove slowly, so he could wave at his supporters, who were lined up in the streets.

Another one of his supporters told WPLG-TV "For the most part, it’s just a somber but at the same time celebratory moment for us to welcome him back home."

Trump arrived in Florida early in the day, skipping the inauguration of President Joe Biden. This made Trump the first president in over 150 years to skip the inauguration of his successor.
