While President Trump showed a video montage at this evening’s coronavirus briefing, CNN and MSNBC cut away to their own talking heads. Instead of airing the Trump administration’s defence of their handling of the coronavirus crisis, they chose to analyze the briefing.

The video montage was made to show the timeline of the coronavirus contagion and the handling of the crisis in the US.

The video being shown was a detailed timeline of the media coverage of Trump’s response, exhibiting that many of those who are now critiquing the approach were in fact approving of the migration plans as they were happening.

CNN, in retaliation, put a chyron on the screen that read: "TRUMP USES TASK FORCE BRIEFING TO TRY AND REWRITE HISTORY ON CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE."

This is a continuation of the fight between mainstream media and the Trump administration over what constitutes news. CNN has chosen again and again to not show Trump in real time, and MSNBC routinely cuts away from the daily briefings in favour of their own analysis.
