Former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard released a video on Tuesday suggesting that big tech companies, John Brennan, and Adam Schiff behave like "domestic enemies."
"The mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6th to try to stop Congress from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities were behaving like domestic enemies of our country," Gabbard prefaced.
"But let's be clear, the John Brennans, Adam Schiffs, and oligarchs in big tech who are trying to undermine our constitutionally-protected rights and turn our country into a police state with KGB-style surveillance are also domestic enemies, and much more powerful and therefore dangerous than the mob that stormed the Capitol."
Gabbard played a clip of John Brennan appearing on MSNBC, where he suggested that America is facing an insurgency movement, arguing that "they germinate in different parts of the country, and they gain strength, and it brings together an unholy alliance frequently of religious extremists, authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists, even libertarians."
Gabbard further called upon President Joe Biden "to denounce these efforts by the likes of Brennan and others to take away our civil liberties that are endowed to us by our creator and guaranteed in our constitution."
"If you don't stand up to these people now, then our country will be in great peril," Gabbard warned.
The comments from Gabbard come as high-profile Democrats discuss measures to combat domestic terrorism in the wake of the storming of Capitol Hill by rioters supporting then-President Donald Trump on Jan 6.
Civil libertarians from across the political spectrum have cautioned against such measures, however, arguing that the situation is not serious enough to risk violating civil liberties.
Many point to the War on Terror originally waged by former President George W Bush, arguing that efforts to combat terrorism have resulted in widespread violations of Americans' civil liberties through mass surveillance, no-fly lists, and a war on whistleblowers.
