Team Trump, the official Twitter account of the Trump campaign, has been suspended from the platform only 19 days before the presidential election.
The account, which normally updates around the clock, has not made any updates in 13 hours.
The suspension is tied to the recent New York Post bombshell on Hunter Biden, where it was reported that leaked emails show that he introduced his father Joe Biden, who was Vice President at the time, to Vadym Pozharskyi, an advisor to the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma. Joe Biden has previously claimed that he had no involvement with his son's activities in Ukraine.
According to Twitter, the suspension was a consequence of posting private information without the expressed consent of Huner Biden. Twitter has used this rule as an excuse to ban all links to the New York Post story, arguing that posting leaked emails violates the terms and services of the company.
Twitter on a number of occasions has flagged President Trump's tweets as being in violation of their rules. However, the platform has generally opted to keep them up anyway, stating that the tweets from the President may be in the public's interest.
No such exemption was applied to posts concerning Joe Biden, who is seeking to take over the President's job come January.
Twitter has gone as far as to label links to official government websites as "unsafe" for mentioning the story. A press release from the House Judiciary Committee covering the topic, which was released on an official government website, was flagged as such.
The actions of Twitter regarding this story has brought them under increased scrutiny by individuals and politicians seeking greater regulation against big tech, who many believe are using their massive online influence to support the Democrats. Facebook has also chosen to censor the story, although they claim that this is only until independent fact checkers confirm its authenticity.
Team Trump had previously had its account frozen by Twitter after it posted a video of the President saying that children are "almost immune" to coronavirus, which the platform labelled as misinformation. The account was unfrozen after the video was taken down. The Twitter account of the New York Post was also suspended.
