Saskatoon police had to face down armed thugs when responding to a call to a break and enter just after midnight on Saturday, according to CTV News.

Police had responded to the emergency call which brought them to Avenue B in the Mayfair area of Saskatoon the night before last. The person inside the home had managed to escape the alleged home invasion and call 911. The police arrived at the scene to find two people still inside the house.

One of the officers ran into a man pointing a gun at him on the deck located at the back of the house. He was fortunately able to take shelter behind a tree located nearby, and call for reinforcements. The Tactical Support and Guns and Gangs Unit sent a team out which included an expert negotiator, who was able to get the man to peacefully lay down his weapon and surrender without any further incidents.

They arrested and charged two people at the scene, an adult man and a minor female. The male has been charged with a wide range of weapons offences, including careless use of a firearm, willful unauthorized possession of a firearm, and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon. The female has been charged with assault, in relation to the break-in.

The police were understandably shook up, as Saskatoon is known for high crime and can be a very dangerous place at times. As a police officer on duty after midnight, you never know what you may encounter on those streets.

In fact, an almost identical incident happened just barely two months ago. Fortunately, neither back in June nor last Saturday was anybody killed or injured.
