Two cousins that performed in a hip-hop group with ties to the famous Wu-Tang Clan were executed in Portland, Oregon early Tuesday morning in a killing a brother said was motivated by "jealousy and lust."
According to Portland police, Odion Turner, 50, and David Turner, 45, going by 12 O'Clock and Murdock respectively, were shot and killed at around 5:19 am in the city's Madison South neighborhood.
The two were part of the four person hip-hop project Brooklyn Zu.
Stephon Turner, the younger brother of 12 O'Clock, told the Daily Mail that the shootings were targeted, and believes they were motivated by "jealousy and lust." He did not comment further on who he believed was behind the murders.
Limited details have been released by the Portland police. Turner said the pair died together in an RV after their assassin knocked on the door before opening fire.
A press release issued Tuesday from the Portland Police Bureau identified the two victims, stating that the Oregon State Medical Examiner concluded the two died from gunshot wounds, ruling their deaths homicides.
According to police, there were an additional four victims wounded by gunshots, with one remaining hospitalized with life threatening injuries.
The rappers' deaths were first shared publicly on Instagram Live by 12 O'Clock's son Divine Turner who said, "I'm out of town on business and found out they just murdered my father. I don't know what to do."
"Sad day for me. They assassinated my father in #Oregon," read the video's caption.
Young Dirty Bastard, the son of the late Wu-Tang rap legend Ol' Dirty Bastard and cousin of the two, posted a tribute to Instagram on Tuesday.
"Rip 12 O'Clock. Rip Murdock. They Were My Fathers Tightest blood bonds. My Two Older cousins Was just assassinated. Love Yalll. Blood Forever. Brooklyn Zu," he wrote.
Odion Turner's wife of more than 20 years who lives in Florida, Princhesca Rainier Turner, revealed to The Oregonian that Turner had been living in Portland where he has a number of relatives. The same day Turner was killed, she said their oldest daughter gave birth to a baby.
"August 10, 2021 How could one day bring so much joy and so much pain?" She wrote on a social media website. "My heart doesn't know how to separate being empty and full at the same time."
Home surveillance footage released to The Oregonian captured around 20 gunshots before a car sped away from the scene.
Stephon Turner, who also goes by "Raison Allah" and "Zookeeper," said that his brother Odion Turner was an "an artist, a father and husband."
"My aunt called me up, and she let me know my brother and my cousin is dead, and I couldn't believe it. I'm devastated. It hasn't hit me yet," Stephon Turner said. "The whole world is missing them right now. It's a tragedy."
According to police, these shootings mark the 57th and 58th homicides this year in Portland.
There were 388 shootings in 2019 and 581 in 2020. The most recent data reveals that there were 144 shootings in June of this year, compared to 62 in June 2020 and just 30 in June 2019.
As violence surges across the city, Portland police have had a difficult time recruiting members to the force, and officers are leaving and retiring at a record rate.
