This past Tuesday, according to CTV News, emergency personnel were called to an apartment building in Toronto, in the Driftwood Av. area, near Jane St. and Finch Av. around the time of 5:30 pm. Someone had called in reporting a child having fallen from an apartment in the building.
It appears that an unidentified person passing by on the sidewalk below came across the two-year-old boy, who was severely injured. No witnesses have come forward.
The boy died of his injuries a short time later, having been taken to the hospital and treated there. According to police, the child’s mother showed up at the hospital.
Today, balloons, flowers, stuffed animals and candles mark the scene of the tragedy as those who know the boy and his family build an impromptu memorial.
The boy was described as a “quiet little guy” by building residents and many went on to say that everybody knows each other in that building and are all collectively mourning the child. “He was a king. He was so great and I feel so sorry,” said one resident.
Toronto is usually considered a safe place for children, but incidences that spark concern do come up from time to time. In fact, a very similar incident happened as recently as this past March.
The police are still investigating the incident, in order to determine the circumstances of the fall and ascertain whether any criminal negligence was involved or not. They are continuing to interview everybody in the area. If anybody reading this has any further information, we urge you to contact local authorities.
