United Airlines investigating leak of Ted Cruz's Cancun flight details

United Airlines is reportedly investigating how the information about Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) flight to Cancun was leaked to the press, USA Today reported.

The airline confirmed that it is against their policy to release the private travel information of their customers to media sources. "It's against United's policies to share personal information about our customers and we are investigating this incident," United Airlines told USA Today.

Cruz received social media backlash after it was revealed he booked a trip to Cancun, Mexico, during the severe winter weather power outages plaguing the state of Texas. Cruz was questioned by journalists at the airport who somehow knew when his return flight to Texas would be.

Media reports of Cruz's escape to Mexico went viral Thursday and the Senator's Democratic colleagues seized the opportunity to sink their teeth in.

Cruz admitted to taking the trip and further explained himself in a statement responding to the massive criticism.

"With school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon," Cruz said in the statement.
