US Attorney's Office in DC refuses to investigate attack on Rand Paul

"The DC U.S. Attorney today confirmed to me that they will not pursue an investigation of who is funding the thugs who attacked my wife and me and sent a DC police officer to the hospital," Senator Paul's tweet reads.

On Monday, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul tweeted that the US Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia will not be investigating those funding Antifa rioters after he and a police officer were attacked by anarchists over the summer.

"The DC U.S. Attorney today confirmed to me that they will not pursue an investigation of who is funding the thugs who attacked my wife and me and sent a DC police officer to the hospital," Senator Paul's tweet reads.

The tweet was a reply to a video of himself on Fox News discussing the incident in late August. Paul told the network that he believes "there is interstate criminal traffic being paid for across states lines."

"This also isn't normal" he told the interviewer, and insisted that the Antifa rioters must be arrested in order to find out where they were from. He further suggested that they were paid to be in DC. While Paul did not provide any evidence for his claim during his short interview, one man charged with assaulting a police officer in DC that night turned out to be from Orlando, lending credence to his claim that many of the rioters are not from DC.

In the video, a police officer can be seen being shoved into Rand Paul. Paul thanked DC police officers for their protection in a tweet the next day, and speaking on behalf of both him and his spouse, praised the police "for literally saving our lives."

Another protester can be heard in the background shouting at Paul to "say her name!" The slogan is a reference to Breonna Taylor, a black woman who was killed by police during a no-knock raid in Louisville, Kentucky in March of 2020. Rand Paul, a libertarian-leaning Republican and stringent opponent of no-knock raids, is the sponsor the Justice for Breonna Taylor Act, which he introduced over two months prior to the assault.
